Brendon Savage: Broadacre Farmer in Kulin

Brendon Savage’s family farm is focussed on long term sustainability with emphasis on soluble calcium and plant nutrition. Reduction of synthetic fertiliser, fungicide and insecticide use to promote root growth, organic matter and water holding capacity. Trying to buffer and remediate some of the more damaging chemicals being used.

He has been an Australian Soil Planners client for 15 years and use a mix of plant nutrition products from South west liquids to help minimise the reliance on synthetic fertiliser use. Brendon has moved to a higher percentage of livestock in recent years to lower reliance on cropping systems and the associated spiralling costs.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development supported World Soil Day 2020 with a range of resources including a soil pit and free soil science activities for children. Perth NRM acknowledges DPIRD’s coordinated and collaborative effort to celebrate the great work of West Australian farmers. RegenWA is co-funded by Perth NRM and the Western Australian Government’s State NRM Office.
