21 multi-national corporations with regenerative agriculture programs and policies are analysed in this paper, and the nature of each corporation’s involvement in regenerative agriculture is documented. Their varying involvements reflect broader attempts by agro-food corporations to legitimise their power in the global food system via the environmental food regime. As evidenced in this paper, the current mode of ‘green capitalism’ exemplified by these actors, while capable of shifting economic activity so that profits are renewed through less depletion of resources, also perpetuates ongoing patterns of extraction and wealth/health disparity.
Given the increasing interest in regenerative agriculture by such corporate actors, the regenerative agriculture sector is at risk of corporate co-optation.
