What a day at the SJ Food and Farm Fest!

For the first time, Perth NRM held a stall at the Serpentine Jarrahdale (SJ) Agricultural Show, the Food & Farm Fest, on May 3^rd. Run by a dedicated group of local volunteers, the Food & Farm Fest proved to be nothing short of entertaining and engaging!

Perth NRM was set up in the new Learning Zone organised by the amazing Julie and Gary Richards (Down2Earth). The zone featured interactive activities and information on native bees & bee hotels, regenerative agriculture & landcare, organic seeds, herbs & vegetables, cockatoo tubes and even a podcast booth!

Rolling presentations took place sharing environmental and sustainable ideas, even our SAF, Tibby Tuckett, presented on the 6 regenerative agriculture principles (if you can’t think of these off the top of your head, check out RegenWA’s webpage Regen Ag 101). Did you know that different plants in the same paddock aren’t actually competing for water and other resources like nutrients, but are actually supporting and encouraging plant resilience? Check out one of the longest running biodiversity experiments in the world, the Jena Experiment for a deep dive into why ecosystems need biodiversity.

Despite a wet and windy day, the crowds came from far and wide to connect with the community, pat soft, fluffy alpacas and support small businesses selling incredible produce and products.
