RegenWA Achieves Accreditation as Accounting for Nature® General Experts

RegenWA, supported by Perth NRM, is pleased to announce a significant milestone in the environmental management space: RegenWA team members are now officially accredited General Experts under the Accounting for Nature® Framework.

This achievement positions the organisation to assist landholders across Western Australia in measuring, tracking, and reporting on the condition of their natural assets through the Accounting for Nature® Framework.

RegenWA’s accreditation enables the team to conduct natural capital assessments for landholders wishing to create Environmental Accounts, which quantify the condition of native vegetation and biodiversity on their land.

These accounts are essential for providing evidence of sustainable land management practices and offer landholders new opportunities for practising good environmental stewardship.

By becoming Accredited General Experts, RegenWA can offer account registration and data collection for landholders seeking to improve their land’s natural capital and track its progress.

One of the first landholders to benefit from this new expertise is Sarah and Geoff Mason, owners of the Carrah Environmental Account, a 600-hectare property near Calingiri, Western Australia.

Their property, which has been registered under the Accounting for Nature® Framework, demonstrates the potential for land restoration and biodiversity enhancement through measurable and science-based approaches.

The Mason’s have a legacy of landcare efforts, installing 50 km of fencing and conducting revegetation work over the last 23 years.

Since transitioning to regenerative farming practices in 2021, the Masons have undertaken extensive native plantings, created habitat corridors, and installed an additional 7 km of fencing to protect revegetated areas. These efforts are helping to preserve critical wildlife habitats, including those of the endangered Carnaby’s Black Cockatoos.

The Carrah Environmental Account, now registered through Accounting for Nature will embark on building a vegetation Asset Account using the Landcare Native Vegetation Method (NV-06), and reflects the Masons’ commitment to long-term sustainable land management.

To make claims, the Carrah Environmental Account must undergo Certification, which will enable them to measure and report on the health of their native vegetation, including restoration and rehabilitation efforts, and potentially unlock new market opportunities in environmental conservation.

Key Account Details:
• Account Name: Carrah
• Account ID: AU00079
• Location: Calingiri, Western Australia

  • Area: 600 ha
    • Asset: Native Vegetation

Carrah is using the Accounting for Nature & Landcare Native Vegetation Method (NV-06), an entry-level tool based on the Queensland Herbarium’s BioCondition Assessment Framework, to monitor and improve native vegetation condition. This method provides the foundation for long-term environmental management, with the potential to unlock new market opportunities for natural capital.

This Environmental Account was made possible through a training and capacity-building program funded by Landcare Australia, delivered in partnership with RegenWA and Perth NRM. It is the first of several accounts emerging from recent workshops, showcasing the growing momentum for environmental accounting in Western Australia and demonstrating the power of collaboration in advancing environmental outcomes.

Looking Ahead…

We are excited to continue supporting Sarah and Geoff Mason as they track ongoing changes to their property’s native vegetation and deepen their commitment to sustainability. With RegenWA’s newly-acquired expertise in natural capital assessments, we look forward to helping more landholders create Environmental Accounts that make nature count.
