In this webinar recording, Craig Pensini RegenWA Sustainable Agriculture Project Coordinator is joined by Dr Marina de Oliverira, Post-doc TrEnD Lab-eDGES program Curtin University and Shane Herbert Business Manager eDNA Frontiers Curtin University.
We explore the emerging technology of environmental DNA (eDNA) testing as a new benchmark in conservation and biodiversity in-field data collection and monitoring. Traditionally this work has relied on visual surveys and physical collection of the species from the ecosystem under study.
eDNA monitoring offers a new approach for assessing biodiversity. It can generate full profiles of taxonomic groups, detect low abundance and endangered species negating the need to physically identify individual organisms. eDNA surveys over time can be useful in tracking chronological changes within an area, differences in biodiversity between multiple areas, range shifts of species, and many other applications. Maximising these benefits and obtaining accurate results requires an understanding of how to collect and handles the eDNA samples. This webinar covers all these topics and more.
